39 weeks to race day: base season

Plenty of runway. This far out, the win is a boring, consistent base rhythm: aerobic volume, strength, technique. The structured block starts closer in; what you do now decides how high it can climb.

R
Recover
Consider recovery context, sleep and readiness before adding training load.
A
Align
Fit the plan to your actual life, not the one you wish you had.
C
Condition
Minimum effective dose. The right sessions, done fresh.
E
Execute
Race-week protocol, pacing, contingency. Nothing new on race day.

Building for this one? Training plans cover the sessions, the weekly shape and how the block is paced. The R.A.C.E. Framework explains why it is built that way.

Road to Race

Build my complete road.

Commit to the date and we will walk you to it: a countdown, honest guidance by email, and the debrief afterwards. Full adaptive training for running races is coming; nothing here pretends otherwise.

One confirmation email, then the road begins. Registering for the race itself stays with the organiser.

Already have the app, or want it? The app takes this race and builds the block around it.

“My favourite benchmark race: 10k on closed London roads tells you exactly what shape spring training left you in.”

The race

The London 10,000 gives you the marathon's most famous real estate at a distance anyone can train for on a busy life. It is flat, fast and honest, the perfect early-season benchmark for a summer of triathlon or an autumn half. Elites race the same morning, so you warm down watching national records attempted.

The course

No course maps for this race. The organiser publishes no downloadable route for any leg of this race, so there is nothing to draw a course map from. Everything below comes from the official course page, checked on the date at the foot of this section.

Lap count not published

Central London on closed roads, and the only 10K in the capital that finishes outside Buckingham Palace. First run in 2008 with just over 6,000 finishers. One drinks station only, at 5K, with water refill points in the start and finish areas and at 4K, so if you carry a bottle you can fill it three times and if you do not you get one drink in the whole race. Toilets at 3K, 5K and 7K. Information point in Green Park.

Not yet confirmed for this edition: detailed route, lap count, elevation gain, cut-off times, start time. We publish these only once they are on the official course page, so check there before you pace off anything here.

Course details verified against the official Vitality London 10,000 course page on 14 August 2026. Courses change; the official page is always the last word.
