31 weeks to race day: base season

Plenty of runway. This far out, the win is a boring, consistent base rhythm: aerobic volume, strength, technique. The structured block starts closer in; what you do now decides how high it can climb.

R
Recover
Consider recovery context, sleep and readiness before adding training load.
A
Align
Fit the plan to your actual life, not the one you wish you had.
C
Condition
Minimum effective dose. The right sessions, done fresh.
E
Execute
Race-week protocol, pacing, contingency. Nothing new on race day.

Building for this one? Training plans cover the sessions, the weekly shape and how the block is paced. The R.A.C.E. Framework explains why it is built that way.

Road to Race

Build my complete road.

Commit to the date and we will walk you to it: a countdown, honest guidance by email, and the debrief afterwards. Full adaptive training for running races is coming; nothing here pretends otherwise.

One confirmation email, then the road begins. Registering for the race itself stays with the organiser.

Already have the app, or want it? The app takes this race and builds the block around it.

“The marathon you can actually get into. Two weeks before London, so it catches the same spring build if the ballot said no.”

The race

Brighton answers the question every London ballot reject asks: where do I run my spring marathon? The course tours the city before settling along the seafront, the crowds are genuine, and entry is first-come rather than lottery. The exposed seafront miles reward athletes who practised pacing into wind.

The course

No course maps for this race. The organiser publishes no downloadable route for any leg of this race, so there is nothing to draw a course map from. Everything below comes from the official course page, checked on the date at the foot of this section.

Start at Preston Park, road the whole way, and 477 feet of climbing across the marathon, which is one of the few British marathons to publish an elevation figure at all. Distance markers at every mile and every 5K. Pacers run from 3:00 through to 7:00. Drinks stations carry water, HIGH5 Energy Gel Aqua and HIGH5 Zero, so you can rehearse race nutrition in training rather than guessing on the day. The UK's third-largest marathon.

Not yet confirmed for this edition: detailed route, cut-off times, start time, drinks station spacing. We publish these only once they are on the official course page, so check there before you pace off anything here.

Course details verified against the official Brighton Marathon course page on 14 August 2026. Courses change; the official page is always the last word.
