Tokyo Marathon 2027
A city-centre marathon through Shinjuku, Akihabara, Nihombashi and Ginza on Sunday 7 March 2027, with a field of 40,000 runners for the 20th anniversary.
22 weeks to race day: base season
Plenty of runway. This far out, the win is a boring, consistent base rhythm: aerobic volume, strength, technique. The structured block starts closer in; what you do now decides how high it can climb.
Building for this one? Training plans cover the sessions, the weekly shape and how the block is paced. The R.A.C.E. Framework explains why it is built that way.
Build my complete road.
Commit to the date and we will walk you to it: a countdown, honest guidance by email, and the debrief afterwards. Full adaptive training for running races is coming; nothing here pretends otherwise.
One confirmation email, then the road begins. Registering for the race itself stays with the organiser.
“Entry is by lottery and charity, and the 2027 lottery results were published in September 2026, so most athletes will know their status already. If you have a place, build the long run and race-day fuelling plan for a large, crowded start with 40,000 runners.”
The race
The course
Starts at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 1 in Shinjuku and finishes at the Wadakura-Gate intersection. The organiser lists Shinjuku, Akihabara, Nihombashi and Ginza among the districts the course passes through, with landmarks including the Shinjuku Mitsui Building, Kuramae Bridge, the Ryogoku area and Meijiza.
Not yet confirmed for this edition: time limit, cut-off points, elevation gain, entry fees. We publish these only once they are on the official course page, so check there before you pace off anything here.
Course details verified against the official Tokyo Marathon course page on 3 October 2026. Courses change; the official page is always the last word.
