40 weeks to race day: base season

Plenty of runway. This far out, the win is a boring, consistent base rhythm: aerobic volume, strength, technique. The structured 12-week block starts later; what you do now decides how high it can climb.

R
Recover
Fix the nervous system first. Sleep, HRV, and the noise out.
A
Align
Fit the plan to your actual life, not the one you wish you had.
C
Condition
Minimum effective dose. The right sessions, done fresh.
E
Execute
Race-week protocol, pacing, contingency. Nothing new on race day.

Building for this one? Olympic distance training plan covers the sessions, the weekly shape and how the block is paced. The R.A.C.E. Framework explains why it is built that way.

“Zero variables. Flat water, flat closed tarmac, no traffic. This is where you find out what your fitness is actually worth.”

The race

Dorney is the control condition of British triathlon. Everything that adds chaos elsewhere is removed: the swim is a calm rowing lake, the bike is closed laps of the lake perimeter, the run is flat tarmac. That makes it perfect for a first race, a benchmark race, or a brick-session-made-real four weeks out from your A-race.
