12 weeks to race day: a full block fits

This is the sweet spot. A complete 12-week recovery-led build fits inside the runway with room for a base phase in front. Anchor the block to race day and every week between now and then has a reason.

R
Recover
Fix the nervous system first. Sleep, HRV, and the noise out.
A
Align
Fit the plan to your actual life, not the one you wish you had.
C
Condition
Minimum effective dose. The right sessions, done fresh.
E
Execute
Race-week protocol, pacing, contingency. Nothing new on race day.

Building for this one? Ironman training plan covers the sessions, the weekly shape and how the block is paced. The R.A.C.E. Framework explains why it is built that way.

Commit to the date and the work gets a shape: your countdown starts, the emails arrive in step with your build, and the app anchors a recovery-led block so the final week lands exactly on race day.

One confirmation email, then the road begins. Registering for the race itself stays with the organiser.

Already have the app, or want it? The app takes this race and builds the block around it.
Abraham Spring, founder of Unbroken

“The fastest full distance in America on paper, and the one where an ocean swim catches people out. Practise sighting in a chop, then go and ride the flattest 112 miles you will ever ride.”

Abraham Spring: founder, Unbroken

The race

Florida in November is the American equivalent of Barcelona: late in the season, flat in every direction, and full of people chasing a number. The swim is two loops of the Gulf around the Russell-Fields Pier, which is the part that surprises people, because open ocean with a rip current is a different swim to a lake. The bike is a single flat loop through the intracoastal and Pine Log State Forest where you will sit on the bars almost the whole way. The run is two coastal laps and is about as flat as a marathon gets, finishing in front of the crowds at Pier Park.

The course

No course maps for this race. IRONMAN publishes no downloadable route for any leg of this race, only a live tracker that runs on race day, so there is nothing to draw a course map from. Everything below comes from the official course page, checked on the date at the foot of this section.

Swim2.4 mi 3.8 km
2 laps

Two clockwise loops around the Russell-Fields Pier in clear Gulf water, with a short beach run and an aid station between them. Open sea, so currents and rip tides are real and the local beach flag system is in force on the day.

Bike112 mi 180.2 km
One lap

One flat loop over the intracoastal waterways and into Pine Log State Forest. Expect a fast split and expect to spend nearly all of it on the aerobars, with the wind picking up for the return.

Run26.2 mi 42.2 km
2 laps

Two laps along the coast, one of the flattest marathons on the circuit, finishing into the crowd at Pier Park.

T1You run up the beach and through a freshwater shower before entering transition, which gets the salt and sand off before you touch the bike.
T2
Typical race day16–27°C air · 22°C water

Not yet confirmed for this edition: T2 location, bike elevation gain, cut-off times, water temperature history. We publish these only once they are on the official course page, so check there before you pace off anything here.

Questions, answered

When is IRONMAN Florida 2026?

IRONMAN Florida takes place on 7 November 2026.

What distances can I race at IRONMAN Florida?

Full (iron distance). Pick the distance that fits your training runway, not your ego: the right distance is the one you can arrive at fresh.

How hard is the course?

Road terrain, flat profile. Wind matters more than gradient

What is the swim like?

Gulf of Mexico off Panama City Beach. Wetsuit-legal, usually 21-23°C. Practise open water before race week, not during it.

How long do I need to train for it?

Race day is 7 November 2026. For the full distance, a proper recovery-led build wants about 20 weeks, which means starting around 20 June 2026. Later starts still work: the block compresses honestly rather than pretending, and it always anchors to the exact race date.

How do I enter?

Entries are handled by the organiser. Use the Register button above: it goes straight to the official site.

Training for an Ironman From Your Spare Room

Almost all of it can be done indoors, and for a working parent that is not a compromise. There is one part that cannot, and it is not the one you would guess.

Preparing a Body for 140.6 Miles

Your aerobic system will be ready months before your body is. Four structures decide whether you finish comfortably, and only one of them is trained by swimming, cycling or running.

Fuelling an Ironman Without Wrecking Your Stomach

The single most common reason people have a bad day. What to eat, how much, when, and the mistake that ruins more races than under-eating does.
