Unbroken vs TrainingPeaks: data is not a methodology.

TrainingPeaks gives training a powerful place to live. Unbroken gives the triathlete a recovery-led method for deciding what the body—and the rest of life—can absorb today.

The short answer

For methodology plus human judgement, Unbroken is the better choice.

TrainingPeaks may fit when

You need planning and analysis infrastructure.

Its current product pages emphasise the calendar, structured workout sync, device connections, metrics, training plans and coach workflows.

Choose Unbroken when

You want the method to shape the data.

R.A.C.E. gives recovery, training and lived context one coaching language, with optional human support when individual judgement is required.

Side-by-side

Two products built around different centres of gravity.

TrainingPeaks is broader across endurance sport and coaching. Unbroken is narrower: triathlon-specific and recovery-led.

Primary jobPlan, sync, log and analyse endurance training.Place recovery-led context beside the triathlete's training day.
Who supplies training? The athlete can plan, buy a plan, use Premium tools or work with a coach. The app page presents Unbroken training inside the R.A.C.E. system; separately quoted coaching has its own route.
Calendar and analysisA core strength: calendar, workout builder, fitness metrics, workout analysis and Performance Management tools.Unbroken does not position deep calendar and file analysis as its primary public job.
Recovery contextTrainingPeaks lists health insights and metrics including HRV, power, fitness, fatigue and form.Recovery is the organising proposition, expressed through the Protocol Score and Recover, Align, Condition and Execute.
Device ecosystemTrainingPeaks states that it connects with hundreds of watches, trainers and workout devices.Check the Unbroken app page and App Store listing for the current supported platform and data connections.
Coach ecosystemCoach communication, a coach-matching service and a training-plan marketplace are established parts of the platform.Unbroken coaching is a separate, individually quoted service rather than a marketplace.
Method and human roleAs a broad platform, TrainingPeaks supports many coaches and methods rather than committing every athlete to one methodology.R.A.C.E. is the explicit methodology. Technology supports the athlete's and coach's judgement rather than pretending the data is the whole person.
Price and trialTrainingPeaks publishes Premium subscription options, a free trial and separate prices for plans or coaching.Check the current Unbroken app owner page and linked App Store listing; coaching is priced separately.

Important: this compares public product roles, not the accuracy of two algorithms or the results of two athlete cohorts. Current owner pages remain authoritative for features, prices and compatibility.

Fit

When each product earns its place.

Consider TrainingPeaks if

Your system needs a powerful backbone.

  • You or your coach plan through a detailed calendar.
  • You need broad device and workout-file support.
  • Deep workout analysis and long-term metrics matter.
  • You want to shop for plans or find a coach in one ecosystem.
Choose Unbroken if

You want a coaching philosophy, not only a software platform.

  • You want the day to begin with a recovery-informed view.
  • You want swim, bike, run and strength expressed through one method.
  • You want data interpreted alongside lived human context.
  • You want a coherent R.A.C.E. language across app, athlete and coach.

Our position

A training record is useful. A methodology changes how you train.

TrainingPeaks organises the work. Unbroken teaches the athlete how recovery, capacity and execution belong together.

TrainingPeaks remains stronger for deep calendar, device and analysis infrastructure. Unbroken is the better choice for triathletes who want one recovery-led methodology working across the app, the athlete and optional human coaching.

Can the products be used together?

Conceptually, yes: one can own the plan and training record while the other provides recovery-led daily context. In practice, verify current connection support and agree who owns any adjustment. A metric should inform a decision, not silently override a coach or duplicate a prescription.

What Unbroken does not claim here

We do not claim that Unbroken analyses more devices, replaces TrainingPeaks for coaches or produces better performance outcomes. TrainingPeaks publicly has the broader planning and device ecosystem.

Questions

Unbroken and TrainingPeaks FAQ.

Is Unbroken a TrainingPeaks alternative?

It can be for an athlete whose main problem is daily recovery context. It is not a complete feature-for-feature replacement for TrainingPeaks planning, analysis, device, marketplace and coach tools.

Which is better for a triathlon coach?

TrainingPeaks publicly offers the broader coach and planning infrastructure. Unbroken offers separate coaching through its own ecosystem; verify the current service before deciding.

Can I use both?

Potentially. Give one system authority over the programme, verify current connection support and treat the other as context so the athlete is not asked to obey conflicting changes.
